7 tips to get better at dodge games

Dodge games look simple: something falls or rolls at you and you get out of the way. The players who last longest aren't the ones with the fastest fingers, though. They have a few good habits. These seven work in Plop Panic, Rolling Dodge and most other dodge games.

1. Stay in the open

Keep away from walls and corners. In the open you can escape in any direction, while against a wall you only have half the options. In Plop Panic, drifting poop bounces off the walls, which makes the edges even riskier.

2. Look ahead, not at yourself

Your eyes should be on the area just above or around your character, where the next danger is coming from. Your hands will follow.

3. Use the warnings

Good dodge games warn you. Rolling Dodge flashes an arrow where the next ball will enter. In Plop Panic, the gap in each big wave is visible before the row lands. Move as soon as you see the warning, not when the danger arrives.

4. Make small moves

Most hits happen during a big dash across the screen. Short, controlled moves keep you in a safe spot and give you time to react.

5. Read the bounce

Balls and drifting objects bounce off walls at the same angle they hit them. After a few runs you'll see where a ball is going two bounces ahead.

6. Take power-ups early

Grab shields and umbrellas when they're easy to reach, even if you don't need them yet. They save you later, when the screen is busy and reaching them is risky.

7. Breathe and reset

When the screen gets busy, people tense up and over-steer. Relax your grip, keep your movements smooth, and after a hit use the short moment of safety to get back to open space.
